A plywood is made by bonding three or more thin layers of wood together with an adhesive. Each of the layer is usually oriented with its grain running at right angles to the adjacent layer, and that reduces the shrinkage of the wood and also improves the strength of the finished piece. Most plywood is pressed into large, flat sheets that is used in the construction of a building. Other plywood pieces may be formed into simple or compound curves for use in boates, aircraft, and furniture.

- Softwood
Softwoods like redwood, pine, or cedar is used to make a softwood plywood. It is typically used for construction and industrial purposes including roofing, crating, sheathing, sub-flooring, and packaging. The number of plies depends on the thickness and grade of the sheet but at least three are required as the minimum odd number of plies.
- Marine Plywood
Manufactured from durable face and core veneers, marine plywood performs longer in both humid and wet conditions. It also resists delaminating and fungal attack and can be exposed to moisture for long periods of time. It used in the construction of boats, docks, counter top underlayment, outdoor signs and anywhere that requires prolonged exposure to outdoor elements.
- Lumber Core Plywood
It is usually made with three plies with two thin veneers on each side and a thick core. The inner core consists of strips of wood glued into one solid slab and the outer veneer is typically made of a hardwood. It is a good choice for projects that require a strong screw hold as the inner core helps grasp screws.
- Exterior Plywood
One of the most important concerns about creating an exterior with plywood is its ability to handle wind, rain and other weather conditions. It has weather and water-resistant glue that holds each veneer together. They are also classified as multi-ply as they have several veneers glued together.
- Baltic Birch Plywood
Also known as “Russian Birch”, Baltic Plywood is an imported plywood that native product of the northeastern region of Europe around the Baltic Sea. It is light in color. It is widely known for its multi-ply construction that gives it an attractive edge. It varies in thickness and contains an odd number of plies. It is widely used because of its attractive appearance and is used for cabinetry and other furniture. Best suitable for variety of projects from cabinetmaking to building construction.
- Overlaid Plywood
It can be either high or medium density and that utilizes the same structure of regular sheets with veneers glued to one another. They have a somewhat finished appearance as they have an overlaid sheets with an overlaid face. The finished exterior gives the panels a durable surface that is also smooth enough to keep water and other particles from sticking or damaging it. During transportation and construction there is a possibility of scratches happening to the wood, but this coating helps the wood resist that.
